Hardware

Iomega HipZip.
The HipZip is unique, in that it doesn't use any embeded storage media, such as flash memory or a harddrive. Instead, it uses the comparitivly cheap "Pocket Zip" disks. This gives it the advantage of allowing the user to create several disks of music at a much, much cheaper price than any other PDMP. Each disk holds 40 Mb of music, which is alost an entire album, and cost £8 (as opposed to £120 for a 64 Mb Compact Flash card...). The HipZip costs around about £180/£200.

DigiMate Soulmate/Jukebox combo.
The Soulmate, and its partner, the Jukebox (popular name for PDMP's...) work hand in hand to provide an alternative to storing music files on your computer. How? Well, the Jukebox can be used as a standalone MP3 recording unit. Place a CD into it, and you can then record to its internal harddrive. These files can now be transferred to the Soulmates 32 Mb of memory (which isn't a great amount...), or played through external speakers. There's one catch - the Soulmate and Jukebox are sold seperatley and cost around £350 to buy seperately. Nice idea aimed at people with out a computer, but then, how would anyone know what any of it's about if they don't have a computer?
