RealJukebox:
The encoding features of RealJukebox are fantastic. Even the free
version has more than enough feature for the average user. The software
allows you to encode into MP3 or the "G2" version of the
Real Audio file type. These "G2" files are exactly the
same, sound-wise, but they can't be streamed over the internet like
normal Real Audio. Files can also be recorded in standard wave file
format, for writing to audio CD's. RealJukebox allows the user to
set the level of compression for MP3 or G2, which affects the sound
quality and file size - the more compression, the smaller the sound
file, and the worse the sound quality. The paid for version of the
programme allows users to choose from more levels of compression,
but the average user need not care about that. Also, when encoding,
RealJukebox can encrypt the song file, so that it can't be played
anywhere but on the users computer. Encrypted files can be identified
by the .mpx or .rmx file suffix. As mentioned in the section on
player software, the software can save extra information such as
the artist and song title. It can even save the lyrics to the song
into the file! All in all, RealJukebox provides all of the encoding
features you would need.
Music Match
Looking at the encoding options of Music Match, almost makes you
forget the horrible interface and the lack of unique playing features.
Music Match offers you almost every option under the sun for encoding
files. The only thing it doesn't let you do, is encode to Real Audio/G2.
The programme lets you set the level of compression for each song
with more control than RealJukebox. It also has the feature to save
song/artist information, like the Real Networks offering.
